We praise the Name of Jesus Christ, Son of God!!

He Holds Our Moments in His Hands

(from Scott Gerhart)

Some years ago Maize Reinbreck penned a poem inside my bible cover I have come to appreciate more as the days roll by. Maize was a missionary to China who became friends of our family and visited us in Pennsylvania whenever she was on furlough.

On what became Maize’s final visit to us I opened up to her with some questions. She must have discerned that I was over-stressing the time-table for my future and God’s plan for my life. I cannot recall the exact conversation we had that day, but these words she wrote in my bible have become etched in my mind for 40 years now.

“He does not lead me year by year,
Nor even day by day;
But step by step His path unfolds,
When Jesus leads the way.
He does not lead us hour by hour
or even minute by minute;
But when he says; “This is the way”,
Then child; walk ye in it.
And I am glad that it is so,
Today’s enough to bear;
And when tomorrow comes his grace
Shall far exceed its care.
Why need to worry then, or fret
When God who gave his Son
Holds all my moments in his hand
And gives them one by one.”

Maize went to be with Jesus and that old bible went to some attic somewhere but those words are still with me.step-by-step-ny

So as we make plans and set dates on the calendar for what we hope to achieve, let us consider the important moments in life will not be measured in increments of time but in “steps” orchestrated by our sovereign Lord who cares for us and has a plan for our lives as we purpose to follow Christ.

Sing songs of joy, adoration, to Precious Jesus!
We praise You with hearts of love and songs!
Jesus, our blessed Holy Savior, Promised One!
You are the exact representation of Father God!
How beautiful You are, our glorious Comforter!
Our Teacher in your Word of life, love, and grace!
For our sin’s cost, You died in our place on a cross!
May our lives reflect You, in spirit, intent, and action!
In the Spirit, may we grow daily, loving You more!
We exalt you, our Savior Jesus, for your gift of life!

Created to be in Community

(by Greg Conover)

Acts 2: 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Have you ever wondered, “Is anyone else scared like me?” Or “Am I the only one who has this problem?” Or maybe your thinking is: “Do I have any hope…if someone knew my past, I’d be rejected and humiliated, is there anyone I can really talk to?”

These questions are just a few that each of us have asked or are still asking. We are so lonely in a world of technological connectivity. We can be communicating with so many at once and not really say anything!

You see we were created to be in community. We are made in His image and the Triune God has been in community with Himself for eternity. God made man and said, “It’s not good to be alone.”

And this is what the first church really understood. They understood that we’re to “do life” together. We’re to eat, laugh, cry, read, study, and serve together. We’re to be honest and real. We’re to go where Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media sites can’t take us.

We see this in Acts 2:42–46. Here we see not only the “internal” blessings of coming together but also the “missional” or outward focus blessings of being together. People were learning together, eating together, serving one another and reaching the lost together!

If you’re lonely – if you’re hurting – if you’re scared – you’re not alone. Come and meet with others who are like you and know the only hope…Jesus! Come to worship the One who knows you and loves you. Come to a small group. Come and see Jesus working through a bunch of people just like you!
