Now is the Time

(this week from Tony Hayden)

Isaiah 55:6-9 says: “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. ‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’”

Time flies, it’s true! Many of us can look back at the years and wonder where the time has gone. We’ve had intentions of accomplishing something grand, but the time simply got away from us.

The things we will never accomplish should not preoccupy our lives. But when we put off seeking the Lord, the time will come when it will be too late. With each new day we grow closer to the Lord’s return. The question we should ask ourselves is: Are we ready for his return?

Eventually with each day that we tarry, we may lose precious time that could be invested in our relationship with him. God waits patiently for us. We can find no good reason for putting off initiating or renewing our dependence on the Lord. Our ways or thoughts can never come close to matching his.

Isaiah assured us of God’s mercy when we confess our unrighteous ways and thoughts. God will “abundantly pardon”. We are created to cling to God in relationship. Time is short. Call on him today.

This should be our closing prayer: “Father thank you for your loving patience toward me. Please guide me as I walk in your ways to find time to grow in a closer relationship with you”.
