GET USE TO IT

MID-WEEK DEVOTION (from Pastor Bryan)

…The Angels … and Elders … and four creatures … fell down saying, ” Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen.” REV 7:11-12

GET USE TO IT
If you don’t like Thanksgiving you better get use to it. That is if you plan, or hope, to be in Heaven. Because in Heaven there will be Thanksgiving to God on a continual basis for ever. Remember, ever, is a very long time. Enjoy being Thankful because we will be doing it for a very long time. Of course you could plan on going to that other place where there is NEVER a Thanksgiving and you never have to be thankful. But I wouldn’t recommend it. HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL

1.  THANKS WILL HELP KEEP YOUR HEART FROM BEING DARKENED

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Rom 1:22

2.  THANKS ALLOWS YOU TO BLESS GOD:

Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!  Ps 100:4

3.  THANKS WILL OPEN UP THE WILL OF GOD FOR YOU

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thes 5:18

4.  THANKS WILL DEEPEN YOUR SPIRITUALITY

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.  Col 3:15-17

5.  THANKS WILL IMPROVE AND DEEPEN YOUR PRAYER LIFE

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Phip 4:6

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. Col 4:2 17

I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers, Phim 1:4

6. THANKS IS NOT AFRAID OF THE PSALMIST QUESTION:  What shall I render to the Lord for all his benefits to me? Ps 116:12

   – 116:17  – gives the answer “I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the Lord, I will call on the name of the Lord and fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.”

7. THANKS IS THE HIDDEN SECRET OF DANIEL      Daniel 6:1-10

“He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.” 6:10

When you make thanksgiving a consistent part of your life before hard  times it will be a part of your life in hard times.

For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; – Psalm 100:5a

I read a quote by Tim Keller that said – “God is not passively good, he is actively good”. I like that because the truth that God is good is a core value we hold as Christians. So much of our faith and belief is based on that truth. However, God’s goodness is not a passive truth. It’s not something to store away in the recesses of our minds. It’s an active truth.
Thanksgiving, the holiday, perhaps brings this to our senses more than any other holiday. Take this quick test: Think of 10 things you are thankful for – quickly. Now is there anything in that list in which God is not good? God’s goodness is active in your life. We just need to be reminded of this and Thanksgiving gives us such an opportunity.
